Financial Obligations

At Mother Me Midwifery, we believe in providing transparent and accessible care. HOMEBIRTH midwives in Pennsylvania and Mississippi cannot bill insurance directly, meaning all payments are out-of-pocket and are the client's responsibility. However, many families have successfully submitted invoices to their health insurance providers for reimbursement. Upon request, Melissa will provide you with a superbill for an administrative fee of $200.00. We encourage you to contact your insurance company to understand your out-of-pocket costs and potential reimbursement options before scheduling your FREE homebirth consultation. We’re happy to answer any questions regarding the global fee, possible additional costs, labs and diagnostic tests billed directly to your insurance, and your financial obligation. If you’re planning to become pregnant and are considering a homebirth, you may want to explore health share programs as an alternative to traditional health insurance. Some of the health share programs highly recommended by my clients include Samaritan Ministries, Christian Healthcare Ministries, and Zion Health. These health shares typically offer reimbursement at or near 100% of homebirth midwifery care and hospital transfers if needed. They can be an excellent option for families choosing homebirth.

Service Fee and Payment Flexibility

At Mother Me Midwifery, we offer comprehensive midwifery care for a global fee of $5,200.00, which includes prenatal, birth, and postpartum services and newborn care. The global midwifery invoice must be paid by 36 weeks of gestation. All clients are required to pay a non-refundable retainer of $700.00, due at the initial prenatal care visit.

We offer flexible payment plans to help make midwifery care accessible, and we are committed to working with you to ensure cost is not a barrier to your care.

What’s Included in the Global Fee?

The global fee covers all the essential midwifery services you need for a healthy, supported birth experience:

Initial Prenatal Visit
Up to 10 prenatal office visits and labor, birth, and immediate postpartum care for both mother and baby
36-week prenatal home visit
Initial newborn exam
2 in-home postpartum visits for mother and baby
2 postpartum clinic visits
Standard midwifery supplies for labor and birth
On-call availability of a midwife throughout your pregnancy and postpartum period.

Mother Me Midwifery offers discounts in exceptional circumstances.

Medicaid clients at $4200.00.

Amish clients $4200.00

Invoice paid in full at the onset of service: $4200.00

Your midwife reserves the right to negotiate her fees as she sees fit. Clients are expected to sign a financial agreement before beginning midwifery services.

If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can find a way to make it work.

Mother Me will send lab work to Ulta Labs or Quest Diagnostics, including blood tests, cultures, urine tests, and pap smears. You will be billed for the costs of these tests, or you may request that the lab bill your health insurance. Please advise your midwife on how you would like to handle this expense.

If the circumstances of your pregnancy, labor, birth, or postpartum require time and visits beyond what is outlined above, you may be responsible for additional fees associated with the extra costs incurred.

Possible circumstances resulting in additional costs include:

Midwifery visits to address non-routine or non-pregnancy related problems
Midwifery visits to check “progress” of labor (as requested by the client)
Use of IV or medications such as RhoGAM, vitamin K, antibiotics, or medicines for postpartum hemorrhage.
Prolonged midwife attendance of labor beyond 24 hours.
Postpartum care beyond 6 hours after the birth
Lab tests, ultrasounds, or other referral expenses not covered by your insurance.
Birth pool rental and water-birth supplies
Travel outside a 60-mile radius @ .63 cents per mile.
Needing a second midwife in attendance at your birth, such as in the case of twins.

Physician Fees
Hospital Charges
Childbirth or Breastfeeding classes
Doula fees

Waterbirth pool rental & supplies
