Homebirth Midwifery & Well Woman Care
Intrapartum Care (labor & birth)
Once active labor begins, the midwife will provide an ongoing assessment of the health of the mother and baby. This care includes monitoring your vital signs, assessing fetal heart tones, and ensuring proper nutrition and hydration. In addition, the midwife or her team may provide natural comfort measures during labor, make suggestions to help facilitate optimal fetal positioning, and provide informational and emotional support. The midwife is trained and skilled in providing clinical care during the normal course of labor and birth, including the delivery of the placenta, and birth emergencies, including; shoulder dystocia, surprise breech birth, postpartum hemorrhage, and neonatal resuscitation.

Should emergency transport become necessary, the midwife will provide effective communication to help you make informed decisions and communicate with 911 and the hospital facility. Communication will include (based on available time) updated client charting of the birth to that point, prenatal records, and a transport form completed at the time of transport.
