Legal Status & Malpractice Insurance

Pennsylvania and Mississippi do not currently have licensed or regulated homebirth midwifery care (except for CNMs in some cases). Homebirth midwives in these states practice without oversight. Each client is responsible for conducting due diligence to ensure their midwife is qualified to provide the service and care they deem necessary and safe.

Malpractice insurance is not available for homebirth midwives in Pennsylvania or Mississippi.
